NYC PREMIERE In 1968, a schoolteacher in a rural Iowa school put her all-white class through an exercise that would make her students consider the brutal realities of race discrimination. Aghast at the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jane Elliott devised the “Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes” exercise, earning the ire of parents and society and rendering Elliott a lifelong crusader against racism.
